Shine for Jesus

This weekend was a camp-in at my house with 24 kids ages 10-15. The theme was "Shine for Jesus" based on three main Bible passages: Mathew 5: 14-16, Phillipians 2:14-15, Ephesians 5:8-10. We started off with playing some games, then the first Bible study. We had two teams, moon and stars for the vaarious activities. For supper the two teams made their pizzas and were judged on how pretty and delicious they were. Although the Stars won the competion, everyone enjoyed making and eating the pizzas! After clean-up we had singing and our second Bible study. Inspite of a down pour we had fun with a treasure hunt, hide and seek, and activities with glow sticks. When did they go to bed? At 2:00am I made popcorn for them as they watched a film. Sleep finally came around 4:00am! I got them up again at 8:30 for breakfast and another study in God's Word. After lunch and clean-up they made mini posters to take home with glow-in-the-dark stars. It was a fun and memorable weekend for us all.

Bumper Crop

In my yard there is a huge tree (good for shade) that pruduces very large fruit called jaca. In October the tree was overloaded with over a hundred fruits each weighing 3-5 pounds. When they get ripe they are soft and will fall of the tree and split open if not picked. One day we picked eight of them in one day. Fortunately my neighbor boy comes and climbs the trees to pick them. They are filled with yellow pulp each around an almond sized pit. Brazilians love jaca so I had no problem getting rid of them all. I now have only one jaca left on the tree and it will get picked this week. I must say I am glad jaca season is over!
